Regarding Verdict in Kermit Gosnell Murder Trial
May 14, 2013

I am grateful that the jury in the Kermit Gosnell murder trial recognized the value and dignity of children born alive after an attempted abortion. I hope that the scrutiny this trial has received will bring a greater public recognition of the extremity of America's abortion laws and a more stringent regulation of the abortion industry. I ask people of good will to join me in praying for the day where every child, born and unborn, will be respected in life and fully protected by law and, in a particular way, I reiterate the promise made by the Catholic Church and the pro-life community that any woman who feels she has no "choice" but to end the life of her unborn child can come to us for assistance and support.

speaks out on the upcoming Fortnight for Freedom.

“The need for prayer, education, and action in defense of religious liberty has never been greater,” explained Archbishop Lori. “The Fortnight for Freedom exists to meet that need. This year’s Fortnight occurs just weeks before August 1, when the administration’s mandate coercing us to violate our deeply-held beliefs will be enforced against most religious non-profits. During the Fortnight the Supreme Court’s decisions on the definition of marriage will likely be handed down as well. Those decisions could have a profound impact on religious freedom for generations to come.”

Geno Sylva, the English-language official for the Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelization expresses that; “The whole idea for this Evangelium Vitae weekend is showing the absolute importance of the sanctity of all life from conception to natural death in the mission of the New Evangelization.” He continues to say, “That the most basic of all rights – the right to life – has got to be promoted, has got to be protected and thus is an essential part of the New Evangelization.”
